Human Chorionic Gonadrotropin (HCG)
Description: HCG is a gonadotropin (glycoprotein hormone) secreted by the pituitary gland. HCG is among the family of endocrine system hormones that regulate growth, reproductive and sexual functions in the body.
HCG Therapies: In men, HCG is used to stimulate testosterone production and help with erectile dysfunction caused by low testosterone levels. In women, HCG is used to promote ovulation, foster fertility and help with loss of libido.
HCG is normally provided as a glycoprotein powder to be diluted with water, and acts in the male body like LH (Luteinizing Hormone) stimulating the testes to produce testosterone even when natural LH is not present or is deficient as is common in andropause (male menopause). It is also useful for maintaining testosterone production and/or testicle size during a steroid cycle or testosterone replacement therapy regimens.
In women, HCG
may be used to promote fertility
especially if a women is having difficulty conceiving. Hormonal imbalances can effect the ovalutary cycle making pregnancy difficult to achieve. HCG
medication may be prescribed to help induce ovulation and increase the chances of pregnancy. Testosterone has also been prescribed for women experiencing a loss of libido helping them increase their sex drive and sexual health.
HCG, Testosterone and Ejaculatory Volume. HCG results in increased testosterone production affecting the hypothalamus and pituitary glands. It is preferable to use HGC during a cycle. A daily amount of 500 IU is generally sufficient and should not norally exceed 1000 IU per day. Daily administration og HCG is superior to less frequent administration. Doses over 1000 IU are noted for their tendency to cause or aggravate gynecomastia, and also act to desensitize the testicles to LH.
HCG can be useful for returning testosterone to normal levels should levels be low post-cycle, or, with care, to increase levels from normal to high normal. Titration of the dose, by measuring T (testosterone) levels and then adjusting the HCG dose accordingly, is recommended for long term use.
HCG does not correct the problem of progressively-decreasing ejaculatory volume that is typical during a steroid cycle. To restore ejaculatory volume one should go off-cycle and use Clomid. It is possible that HMG, a related drug which works analogously to FSH might be useful during a cycle to treat this problem. HMG supports spermatogenesis and is commonly used in conjunction with HCG to treat male fertility problems.
HCG Injections. HCG may be injected intra-muscularly, subcutaneously, or in a shallow injection about 1/4" deep with the needle going straight in. A 29 gauge insulin needle is recommended. Injection speed should be slow.
Some HCG products are diluted 5000 or even 10,000 IU per mL, while others are diluted 1000 IU per mL. Once mixed, the HCG preparation should be refrigerated and used within a few weeks. The substance is also somewhat temperature sensitive before mixing and should not be exposed to excessive heat.
HCG and Athletes. Athletes may use HCG to return some naturally produced testosterone back into their bodies during a steriod cycle. Steroids and low hormonal conditions like those caused by male menopause can cause a man's pituitary gland to stop releasing LH - luteinizing hormone. LH normally travels from the pituitary via the blood stream to the testes where the production of testosterone is triggered. Without LH, a man's testes shut down their production of testosterone so doctors specializing in men's hormones will many times prescribe HCG for males to help restore and maintain testosterone production in the man's testes. HCG 'mimicks' LH and triggers the production and subsequent release of testosterone helping to restore a man's depressed testosterone hormone level.
HCG - Fertility and Weight Control Solutions
HCG has been used as a fertility drug and in homeopathic weight loss protocols (The HCG Diet - www.thehgcdiet.com)
HCG is a hormone naturally produced by the body. It is considered the fertility drug because HGC levels can double every 2 days during pregnancy. During pregnancy, HCG allows the women's body to mobilize fat and use it for energy and the fetus. Harnessing the moblization properties of HCG, physicians are able to successfully effect weight loss usally administering only a small amount.
Why is the diet called The HCG Diet? Normally, HCG works to mobilize body fat for utilization by the body only when there is a significant or drastic decrease in body caloric intake and fat reserves. The fat reserves are then called upon when a person is in a state of malnourishment or has not eaten for a long period of time. The body calls upon the body's fat reserves to burn for energy. For weight loss purposes, a very low calorie diet triggers the HCG to help burn off the body's fat reserves - coining the phrase HCG Diet.
