Medical Massage Therapy
Sports Medicine / Medical Spa Services for Men & Women
The Anti-Aging Group is proud to offer a number of medical massage therapies at our medspa including deep tissue massage, orthopedic massage and Yoga perfomed by licensed massage practitioners. We focus on clinical injury-treatment massage and other forms of medically indicated massage therapy that complement our anti-aging treatments and hormone replacement therapy programs.
If you have been injured in a sport's accident, car accident or on the job, or if you have another injury or condition for which massage is medically necessary, your doctor may give you a prescription for massage. Our physicians are experts in sports medicine and we can work with medical doctors, naturopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, and other health care practitioners to provide massage care when it is medically indicated for their patients. For hormone replacement therapy patients, massage therapy can help keep the body and nervous system rejuvenated and is part of The Anti-Aging Groups's holistic approach to hormone therapy.
What is Medical Massage?
Medical massage is therapeutic bodywork delivered in a medical setting - that is, under the direction of a doctor or other health care provider. Delivering medical massage care requires advanced training (beyond the state's basic 500-hour licensing requirement) in clinical and orthopedic massage techniques, pathology and contraindications, medical communication and documentation, insurance billing, professional ethics, and legal issues.
The Anti Aging Group's licensed massage practitioners have over 1,500 hours of basic and advanced massage training and education, and have a strong commitment to on going professional development and lifelong learning.

Swedish Relaxation
Light to deep pressure massage combined with sweeping arm strokes and acupressure that is applied to certain tension points to bring stress relief, better ability to sleep, lowered blood pressure and release of toxins.
Swedish massage provides deep relaxation. This type of massage is wonderful for people who are always on the go and rarely take time for themselves.

Neuromuscular/Trigger Point
Most muscle and joint pain arise from the malfunctioning of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. This type of massage is used to balance these two systems and focus on specific points of discomfort, called trigger points, which are tender when pressure is applied and refer signals to other areas of the body.
Neuromuscular massage is generally used only with people who have had bodywork before and plan to be consistent in their treatment.

Myofascial Release
Fascia is a tough connective tissue spread throughout the body that supports the muscular, skeletal and immune systems. Fascial restrictions lead to structural imbalances, which can lead to injury.
Myofascial work, which uses long stretching strokes, releases muscular tension, increases range of motion and relieves pain.

Sports
Sports massage can be used before a sporting event, after or during the training process. This style of massage helps prevent injury, increase performance, flexibility and range of motion.
Sports massage also relieves muscular cramps and tension and flushes toxins out of the body to decrease muscle soreness.

Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage is normally used in conjunction with many other styles of massage. It is different in that the pressure is consistently deeper and works the muscle tissue below the superficial layers.
This style of massage can be beneficial for chronic or acute pain and is not recommended for people who have never had massage.

Pregnancy
As the body changes during pregnancy, massage can help relieve muscle aches and pains, reduce fluid retention, increase circulation to slow the process of varicose veins and calm the nervous system.
Massage helps women become aware of tension in the body and teaches how to consciously release it in preparation for the birthing process.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Pre- and post-operatively - Before surgery, massage relaxes muscles and increases circulation to prepare patients for the procedure. After surgery, massage can enhance patient comfort and help reduce adhesion formation.
You may have lymphatic massages after about two weeks. The massage has to be done gently and avoid shearing forces at the surface. If done properly, lymphatic massage can promote resolution of swelling.
MLD involves light, rhythmical massage that aids the body in collecting and moving lymphatic fluid, which plays a key role in delivering nutrients, antibodies and other immune constituents to the tissue cells of the body and removing debris such as toxins, cell waste and dead particles which are then cleansed by clusters of lymph nodes.
MLD also works on the nervous system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and improving sleep patterns.
