Hormone therapy is about more than merely raising your hormone levels.
When I talk to patients about hormone replacement therapies (HRT), I like to tell them that what we do is not only about bringing your hormone levels “back to normal,” but into proper balance.
There are many critical hormones in your body. In order to have you functioning your best, they all must interact together in kind of complex dance. If one is out of step, the whole performance falls apart!
Under the best of circumstances, your body tends to keep your hormones balanced. But, many things can throw it off, causing a so-called “hormone imbalance.” Stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, all can knock the delicate balance of your hormones out of whack. The result is fatigue, lack of energy, mood swings, and sexual wellness issues – all the things we normally attribute to aging – but that really could be a sign of hormonal imbalances.
The good news is, even before we discuss the possibilities of hormone therapy, there are many things you can do to get your hormones back in harmony, and help to keep them there!
Hormone Therapy – For Avoiding Hormone Imbalance
Nothing is more important to the way you think, feel and perform, than your hormones. These little chemical messengers are basically what get you through the day. Your ability to get out of bed in the morning, how you feel when you do, how you will perform physically and mentally during the day, and if you feel “up to” a little romance when you get home at night, are all regulated by your hormones.
As you get older, the levels of critical hormones all decline. The most significant of these, particularly for men, are testosterone, and human growth hormone, or HGH. These are not only essential to your physical and mental well-being, but they influence the production of other hormones. The drop in testosterone and HGH as you get older causes the whole system to get thrown off.
Stress further adds to this imbalance. High stress produces more cortisol, and cortisol is a hormone that interferes with the production of testosterone and HGH. Lack of sleep also adds to this imbalance, as HGH and Testosterone are replenished during restful sleep.
One of the best way to break this cycle and pump your levels, is to “pump it up”. Heavy and intense exercise improves testosterone and HGH levels, and causes cortisol levels to drop. High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT in particular, is great for this.
Combine regular exercise with a good diet, and you create the best weapon against the worst hormone crusher – belly fat!
Other ways to pump up your testosterone naturally, include:
- Minimizing the consumption of alcohol
- Minimizing the use of recreational drugs, including marijuana
- Getting enough sleep
- Practice stress reduction techniques such as yoga, meditation or Tai Chi
- Quit smoking
- Fight negativity, have more positive thoughts
The Benefits of Hormone Therapy
If you do all of the above and yet still find that you are:
- Gaining weight
- Losing muscle
- Have sexual issues
Your hormone levels may be so far off, that you may benefit from hormone replacement therapy or HRT.
HRT can replace what time and stress takes away. HRT can help bring you back in balance. Hormone therapy can be used to optimize your testosterone levels, or your growth hormone levels, or both.
But, the only way to tell if you are a candidate for HRT is to have your levels checked by a qualified professional. Why not contact our offices today? Speak with one of our age-management counselors. You may even qualify for your first month’s supply of testosterone completely free!
