Men who smoke are more likely to suffer from Erectile Dysfunction. What is the link between ED, and smoking?
There are many reasons to quit smoking, but did you know that lighting up can interfere with “getting it up?” Smoking also literally kicks you in the pants! There is a direct relationship between smoking and ED. Smoking damages blood vessels. Men who smoke are 51% more likely to experience ED than non-smokers. So, if you needed one more reason to quit, there it is!
The toxic chemicals in cigarettes can wreak havoc on just about every part of your body, but they can be particularly damaging to blood vessels. A healthy quality erection requires good blood flow through the arteries of your penis. An erection results after sexual stimulation causes the arteries in the penis to open and fill erectile tissues with blood. The sensitive nerves of the penis respond to sexual arousal signals from the brain. But, if your arteries are blocked, or otherwise damaged due to smoking, even if the signals are received, a quality erection may not be possible.
Other Poor Lifestyle Choices and ED
A poor life choice second only to smoking, that can negatively impact your ability to perform sexually, is obesity. Interestingly enough, men who smoke, also tend to be overweight, which could also account for the increased numbers of smokers with ED.
Being more than a few pounds overweight can lead to a lot of health issues. Guess what guys? The same reasons that a big gut can increase your risk of heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure, also put you at greater risk of erectile dysfunction. If you have a waistline of 39 or more, you are twice as likely to have ED, than men with a waist circumference of 35 or less. All that extra fat, means you likely also have impaired blood flow, which can lead to heart disease and ED. Also, increased belly fat lowers your production of testosterone. Low-T also can lead to ED.
Much like smoking, obesity, and its related conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, also negatively impact blood flow. We now know that poor blood flow to the penis is the root cause of erectile dysfunction. We also know that most ED treatments, such as Viagra and other oral ED drugs, do nothing to treat this root cause of ED.
There is currently only one treatment for ED that targets its root causes, and that is shockwave therapy
Shockwave therapy for ED is a remarkable new treatment designed to target the root causes of ED. This treatment has been successfully used in Europe for over 15 years. We have recently introduced our own shockwave therapy protocols for ED here in the US, known as GAINSWave Therapy.
Even in nonsmokers, we know that the critical blood vessels in your penis break down over time. This is the most common cause of age-related ED. The GAINSWave™ uses high frequency acoustical waves to open up old blood vessels, and to stimulate the formation of new vessels.
The resulting improved blood flow, helps any man, and not just those with ED, to obtain stronger and more sustainable erections.
The acoustical waves of the GAINSWave™ are practically painless. The GAINSWave uses shockwave therapy protocols for ED, specifically developed by myself and my staff.
Particularly for smokers with ED, who we know are likely to have blood vessel damage, we will combine GAINSWave™ therapy, with other ED treatments that can also help improve blood flow such as the P-shot. The P-shot uses the healing factors in your own blood to improve blood flow and erectile function.
The GAINSWave™ and the P-shot are what we call “synergistic,” meaning that each one enhances the effect of the other. When we combine the two therapies, we deliver a “one-two punch,” that results in longer, stronger, more sustainable erections, without the use of any surgical procedures, or prescription drugs!
